8 Angry Gentleman

I know its way late but here goes an effort to get some credit.

Mr. Davis or juror eight uses much logical and reasoning in the movie 8 Angry Gentleman. First he just ask a simple question whether the kid did kill his dad or not. When all the other jurors said they do believe that he kill him Davis was bent on making sure they went through every piece of the evidence. By constantly giving questions to the other jurors statement he was able to turn them slowly but surely. Davis' argument is effective in that he first had the same rare knife as the one used when there argument was that such a rare knife like that would be hard to come by. He also went through every detail such as contradicting the old man's statement of getting to the door as quickly as he did to witness the boy running down the stairs. Basically Davis wanted to make sure the boy was giving a fair trial.

Preface Event 2: Hippie Halloween

For my second Preface Event I chose to experience life like a hippie and dress up as one. I went into full transformation, I even changed my name to Sunshyne (yes w/ a y not an i). In dressing like a hippie I chose to wear bright colors and write inspirational words on my jeans such as peace and hope. I also realize that to be a hippie you really had to not care what people thought of you because people were giving me the strangest looks even though it was Halloween. Once I realize that I just shouldn't care, I had so much fun, especially when I got the free cookies and shaved ice from the CLC Building.

I went to the 60's Rock-N-Roll History program and learn so many things about rock-n-roll. The speaker Barry Drake made me understand that the sixties was an important time in history for music. I thought it was a amazing how many songs I actually knew that came from the sixties. Some of the songs I heard came from movies or television so it was nice to see the actual artist singing their song. Even some of the artist names I have heard before, I like actually seeing who they are such as Janice Joplin and Simon and Garfunkel. Over all I enjoyed this history lesson especially hearing tell us he actually was there in the mist of all it, like being apart of the summer of love.

My Historically Fiction Idea!

Being inspired by my favorite movie Dream Girls, there a scene in the movie were one of the characters run out of the recording studio and on to the street of the Detroit Riots. So for my historically fiction story my plot will probably center around a teenage girl who lives in Detroit in the 1960s.

In the novel In Country, by Bobbie Ann Mason it basically tells a journey of a girl who wants to figure out who apart of her is. Basically she wants to know more about her father who was killed in the Vietnam War. In my opinion, the book had an okay plot and was okay to read, however; I would not personally recommend the book to anyone. To me the book had too much unnecessary information such as when she ran. It seem I read a whole chapter at one point about Sam run before she stop at Tom's garage. I feel that it had its good points like when Sam had her Tom fling or the drama with her friend Dawn and being pregnant. Things like that are what keep me reading. The last good thing about the book I liked was when she found the letters her dad wrote and recieved his journal. To me that what she had been searching for but I feel that I would have missed all of that if I stopped reading. So I guess I would give this book
2 1/2 out 5 stars for my book review.

In reading "Illusions are Forever", Chiat says "I believe in technology, for all its weakness, will be our savior." In response to that quote I think he means that even though people are sometimes untruthful when they are online, it gives people the chance to speak out and share opinions, stories, and events that have occurred. I feel that Chiat believes that the Internet does determine our personal truth in that it does let people give there opinions on certain beliefs, customs, culture differences, political outlooks, and tons of other subject matter. He feels that when something it portrayed one way then people take that way as the right way. I agree that technology, mainly the Internet, does influence how we as a society think on certain things. It can be a good thing when its positive but bad when negative. I feel that this is another way stereotypes surfaces up too; because of how people get portrayed on TV or the Internet.

My response to "The Art of Eating Spaghetti

An experience that thought me about what good writing is happen when I was in the seventh grade. During this time in my life I felt school to be somewhat important and felt I should only do good so that I could make good grades to receive money when report cards came out. Well, being in the first seventh grade honors class I did not I guess expect things to be a little challenging. It was an assignment to do a research paper on a famous African-American. So I figured just get a few books on Malcom X and wright something up. Yea, big mistake! The thing that got me was that I just gathered facts from all my resources and put them in a paper, but I really wasn't connecting with who Malcom X was. When it was time to do the oral part, I completely bombed. Well, I got a F, and truly deserved it too. This experience taught me that I should try to make connections to better understand the subjects I write about.
